Gregory N. Smith, CPP, CHPA is the Principle of Urban Security Innovation, an Edmonton, Alberta-based company that offers specialized services in Security Management and Life Safety, Occupational Safety, Corporate Executive Protection and Risk Management Services and Physical Security Design.
Greg has provided expertise in security management and physical security to the Finance, Property Management, Construction and Healthcare industries. He has attended the Wharton School of Business, Executive Education Program in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He holds a Diploma in Security Management from Grant MacEwan College; a Security Management Certificate from the University of Alberta and an I.T. Security Certificate from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, as well as certification in Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Levels 1 & 2 from the Edmonton Police Service and completed numerous Security, Safety and Business courses.
Board “Certified” in Security Management, Greg earned the CPP designation in 2002 and attained his second professional designation in Healthcare Security Administration, Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA). Greg is also a recognized instructor in the Crime Free Multi Housing program.
During his career, Greg has established himself in the Property Management industry as an innovative leader in security, establishing best practices in Physical Security, Life Safety, and Crime Prevention programs. He has been recognized for his efforts by Security Magazine for Best Practices in 2004 and a Safety Recognition Award for Best Practices in Parkade Security and Safety by the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Police; and featured in several newspapers as a local resource in crime prevention.
Greg has volunteered on the Board of Directors for the Edmonton Downtown Business Association, chaired the Edmonton Safer Cities CPTED committee and served on the local chapter of ASIS International. He is a regular facilitator for the Edmonton Police Service, providing expertise for their Crime Prevention through Environmental Design and Crime Free Multi Housing programs.
Urban Security Innovation has provided services to a variety of industries including condominium associations, the construction industry and to architects and urban planners.

Lorne Daniel is the Managing Partner of Grandview Consulting Inc., an award winning urban engagement, communications planning and writing firm serving clients in BC and Alberta since 1997. His passion is finding ways to help people and organizations strengthen their communities.
Lorne is a member of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), the Canadian Institute of Planners, the American Planning Association and a number of business groups. He regularly blogs on urban planning issues for Sustainable Cities Collective and The Urban Times (UK).
Lorne and his associates at Grandview Consulting specialize in planning, writing and public engagement for urban planning initiatives. Lorne is currently leading public engagement and communications for a new Waskasoo Park Interpretive Plan in Red Deer, Alberta.
In 2010/11, Grandview Consulting led an extensive public engagement process for the Red Deer River Watershed Alliance, including a series of workshops in communities across Alberta.
In partnership with John Hull Architect, Lorne was a lead consultant on the provincial and national award-winning Greater Downtown Action Plan for the City of Red Deer in 2000 and the updated plan in 2008.
Grandview also led the Housing Research and Action project in Red Deer. This action research project collected valuable data through literature searches and interviews, conducted a survey of public opinion related to affordable housing and culminated in the publication of a six-booklet publication called “Changes in the Neighbourhood: development processes that work.”
Since 2005, Grandview has served as Strategic Communications Counsel to Red Deer College for its largest ever growth initiative, Building Communities Through Learning. This has involved conducting focus groups, developing key messages and strategies, planning a thorough matrix of communications activities to advance the project and writing of key documents, from newspaper op-ed articles to a fundraising guide to brochures and web content.
From 2000 through 2009, Grandview Consulting provided communications, marketing, training and organizational development services to Doctors Eyecare Network, an organization of 250 optometrists located across Canada, helping guide the network in the structuring of its current professional operation.
In 2004/05, Grandview Consulting developed and implemented a marketing plan for culture in Red Deer, called Creating Culture Around Every Corner. This involved extensive consultation with the community and stakeholder groups that included Red Deer College, Red Deer Chamber of Commerce, The City of Red Deer, Red Deer County and the Downtown Business Association.
Along with Catalyst Consulting, Grandview led Red Deer College’s long range ‘values based planning’ initiative called Growing Together and a similar visioning project for West Central High School in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
In spring 2005, Grandview designed and conducted a series of focus groups to help Red Deer College gather community response to degree-completion options.
Grandview Consulting has also facilitated strategic planning and visioning work for a number of organizations, including the Central Alberta AIDS Network Society, Alberta Association for the Accreditation of Early Learning and Care Services, and the Alberta Child Care Network.
